Embracing Unique Enneagram Blends in Everyone

The Enneagram test is a great way to understand the personality types that exist as a part of the fundamental nature of human beings. Every person is a unique concoction of their basic type and mostly one of the two types nearest to it on the circumference of the Enneagram. However every person alive on the earth today adheres to one of the four factors mentioned below. Let’s look at them:

Different Personality Types

A Unique Concoction Of The Enneagram:

1. The Basic Personality type

Every person is a unique concoction of their basic type and mostly one of the two types nearest to it on the circumference of the Enneagram. The nine personalities types described by the Enneagram test can be viewed as being separate entities. With every number on the Enneagram describing the attributes of a single type. But it is safe to say no human being is comprised of any single personality type alone. It is a concoction of all or some of the personality types. But in saying so, there is a dominant personality type on the Enneagram that will closely match your personality. So this is defined as being your “Basic Personality Type”.

From the moment of birth, every person on the planet grows up with one type from the Enneagram defining their basic personality. But this basic personality develops from the innate temperament inculcated in us as a result of genetics and other such pre-natal biological factors. In the process of growth, one gets exposed to environmental factors. Such as interactions with peers, teachers and so on. That leave imprints on the dominant personality resulting.

Few points to keep in mind when talking about the Basic Personality type:

  1. It is not normally possible to jump from one basic personality type to another.
  2. Personality types are unisexual and do not conform to a particular gender
  3. There is no superior type - all types have their pros and cons. Desirability of a personality type is based on the local context and culture.

2. Wing

As just stated before, no one can be defined by only a single personality type. Therefore every person is a unique concoction of their basic type and mostly one of the two types nearest to it on the circumference of the Enneagram. The personality type that is nearest to your basic personality type is your wing.

The basic personality type determines your overall personality. While the wing works with it to give definition to your personality type. Bringing some contradictory elements to your personality. Therefore in order to better understand yourself, you ought to understand your wing element properly.

3. Direction of Integration

Personalities are not static objects, but dynamic - they evolve over time. However your personality will respond in different ways based on the different situations. The Direction of Integration talks about relaxed and secure situations and how your personality type responds in such a situation. The Direction of Integration (which signals that we are more secure and can mark the further integration of your basic type) is indicated by the reverse of these two sequences.; Thus, 1-7-5-8-2-4-1 and 9-3-6-9. For example, a Two who is more relaxed can move to Four. A Two will go to Eight when under greater stress.

Under Stress

4. Direction of Disintegration

The Direction of Disintegration or Stress. (Which signals that the person is under increased stress.) It shows on the Enneagram by the sequence of numbers 1-4-2-8-5-7-1 and 9-6-3-9. For example, a One under stress will move to Four, the type in its Direction of Disintegration.
